Liraglutide + oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) refers to the use of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist liraglutide as an adjunct therapy to one or more standard oral agents for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Liraglutide acts by stimulating insulin secretion and suppressing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner, thereby improving glycemic control. When combined with OADs such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, glinides, or alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, this regimen has demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose compared to additional OAD alone. The combination is generally well tolerated; gastrointestinal symptoms are the most common adverse effects and hypoglycemia risk increases mainly when used with sulfonylureas.
