Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, lisdexamfetamine and viloxazine, used primarily in the management of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Lisdexamfetamine is a prodrug of dextroamphetamine, a central nervous system stimulant that increases synaptic concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine by inhibiting their reuptake and promoting their release. Viloxazine is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor with additional serotonergic activity; it inhibits the norepinephrine transporter and modulates serotonin receptors as an antagonist at 5-HT2B receptors and agonist at 5-HT2C receptors. The combination has been studied for safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy in ADHD patients who have an inadequate response to monotherapy. Clinical studies indicate that co-administration does not significantly alter the pharmacokinetics of either drug compared to when they are administered alone[1][5][9]. The combination appears safe and well tolerated after single-dose administration[1][4].
