Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two pharmaceutical drugs: **lisdexamfetamine dimesylate**, a prodrug of the stimulant dextroamphetamine primarily used for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and binge-eating disorder, and **escitalopram**, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) approved for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Both drugs affect neurotransmitter signaling in the central nervous system—lisdexamfetamine increases catecholamine (dopamine and norepinephrine) levels, while escitalopram increases serotonergic neurotransmission. This combination has been examined for augmentation in adults with residual depressive symptoms in the setting of major depressive disorder and for comorbidity of mood disorders with ADHD. Commonly observed pharmacodynamic interactions include possible effects on acetylcholine and histamine efflux, and there is a risk of serotonin syndrome when these drugs are combined[1][3][5][7][9].
