lisinopril + enalapril

Lisinopril + enalapril is a combination of two angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Both drugs are used to treat hypertension, heart failure, and to improve survival after a heart attack. Lisinopril is a long-acting ACE inhibitor that does not require hepatic metabolism for activation, while enalapril is a prodrug that is converted in the liver to its active form, enalaprilat. Both agents function by inhibiting the ACE enzyme, which prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This leads to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. In clinical practice, the simultaneous use of two ACE inhibitors is generally avoided as it increases the risk of adverse effects like hyperkalemia, hypotension, and renal impairment without providing additional therapeutic benefit over monotherapy.
