Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lisparin is a branded formulation of lisuride, a small molecule dopamine receptor agonist, developed by Axxonis Pharma for the treatment of advanced, idiopathic Parkinson's disease. It is specifically designed for continuous subcutaneous infusion via a portable minipump device, a delivery method intended to provide stable plasma concentrations and continuous dopaminergic stimulation. This approach aims to mitigate the motor fluctuations and 'OFF' periods commonly experienced by patients with advanced disease who have become refractory to conventional oral therapies. Lisuride acts as a potent agonist at D2, D3, and D4 dopamine receptors and also interacts with various serotonin and adrenergic receptor subtypes, including acting as a 5-HT1A agonist and 5-HT2A/2C antagonist. The Lisparin program has been evaluated in Phase II/III clinical trials to establish its efficacy and safety in smoothing out motor responses in advanced Parkinson's patients.
