**Lixisenatide + glinide** refers to the concurrent use of two antidiabetic agents: lixisenatide, a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, and a glinide (insulin secretagogue, such as nateglinide or repaglinide). Lixisenatide enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying, thus lowering blood glucose. Glinides stimulate rapid, short-acting insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells by inhibiting ATP-sensitive potassium channels. This combination has been studied as an adjunct therapy in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have inadequate glycemic control with oral agents alone. Studies, especially in Japan, demonstrated that combining lixisenatide with a glinide is generally well tolerated and effective in reducing HbA1c, with a manageable risk of hypoglycemia[1].
