Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LMX-4 is a topical anesthetic cream containing 4% lidocaine encapsulated in a liposomal delivery system. This formulation is designed to enhance the penetration of lidocaine through the skin's stratum corneum, allowing for rapid and effective local anesthesia. It is primarily indicated for minor dermatological procedures, such as venipuncture, intravenous cannulation, and laser treatments, typically requiring an application time of 15 to 40 minutes. By blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in the neuronal membrane, lidocaine inhibits the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby providing temporary relief from pain. LMX-4 was originally developed by Ferndale Laboratories and was previously marketed under the brand name Ela-Max.
