Overview

Lomustine + cytarabine is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two antineoplastic agents used primarily in the treatment of hematologic malignancies such as lymphoma and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Lomustine (also known as CCNU) is an alkylating nitrosourea compound that exerts its effect by causing DNA cross-linking and inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis, leading to cell death. Cytarabine (Ara-C) is a pyrimidine nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as an antimetabolite, particularly effective against rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been used in conditioning regimens for autologous stem cell transplantation in lymphoma patients, as well as part of induction or rescue protocols for AML and other leukemias[1][2][3][4][6]. The regimen may be combined with additional agents depending on the specific protocol.
