Overview

This drug is a fixed-dose combination regimen containing four antiretroviral agents used in the treatment and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The components are: - Lopinavir and ritonavir, both protease inhibitors, where ritonavir acts as a pharmacokinetic booster to increase lopinavir levels. - Emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide, both nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), which inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase, preventing viral replication. The combination is primarily indicated for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and as part of antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens for HIV infection. It has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the risk of HIV transmission after potential exposure and is generally well-tolerated[1][3]. This regimen targets multiple steps in the viral life cycle to suppress viral replication.
