Lorazepam + diazepam is a combination of two benzodiazepine drugs, both of which act as central nervous system depressants. Each drug enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, leading to sedative, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, and amnesic effects. Lorazepam is typically used for anxiety disorders, status epilepticus (seizures), pre-anesthesia sedation, and insomnia related to anxiety. Diazepam is used for anxiety disorders, alcohol withdrawal symptoms, muscle spasms/spasticity, seizures (including status epilepticus), and as a premedication before certain medical procedures. Both drugs are classified as Schedule IV controlled substances due to their potential for dependence and abuse. The concurrent use of lorazepam and diazepam is generally not recommended due to therapeutic duplication within the benzodiazepine class; such combinations may be considered only under special circumstances with close medical supervision because of increased risks including excessive sedation and respiratory depression[2][5][10].
