Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Losartan** is an orally administered small-molecule angiotensin II receptor blocker that selectively antagonizes the angiotensin II type 1 receptor. It was originally developed for cardiovascular and renal indications and is marketed as losartan potassium tablets. In the University of Utah-sponsored SHAPER study, losartan is being repurposed as a stromal and perfusion-modulating adjunct after induction chemotherapy for borderline resectable or locally advanced unresectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; the study evaluates its use with hypofractionated radiation therapy, not as a fixed-dose combination product. By blocking angiotensin II signaling, losartan may reduce tumor-associated fibrosis and improve tumor blood flow and oxygenation, potentially supporting radiation delivery and response.
