Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Losartan + hydrochlorothiazide** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination of losartan, an angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Losartan reduces angiotensin II-mediated vasoconstriction and aldosterone signaling, while hydrochlorothiazide promotes renal sodium and water excretion through inhibition of sodium-chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule. The combination is used for hypertension and to reduce stroke risk in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy. It is supplied as film-coated tablets, including 50 mg/12.5 mg, 100 mg/12.5 mg, and 100 mg/25 mg strengths.
