Overview

This is a multi-drug antihypertensive regimen combining four distinct classes of blood pressure-lowering medications: - **Losartan** is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, thereby lowering blood pressure. - **Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ)** is a thiazide diuretic that reduces fluid volume and vascular resistance by increasing urinary excretion of sodium and water. - **Amlodipine** is a calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. - **Atenolol** is a beta-blocker that decreases heart rate and cardiac output by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors. This combination targets multiple mechanisms involved in hypertension, providing additive or synergistic effects for patients with difficult-to-control high blood pressure. Each component has been shown to reduce cardiovascular risk factors such as stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and kidney disease when used appropriately. While combinations of two or three of these drugs are available as fixed-dose products for hypertension management[5][7][8], there does not appear to be an approved single-tablet formulation containing all four agents; such regimens are typically prescribed as separate tablets.
