Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**losartan + s-amlodipine** is a fixed-dose oral combination antihypertensive agent containing two drugs: **losartan** (an angiotensin II receptor blocker, ARB) and **S-amlodipine** (the S-enantiomer of amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, CCB). **Losartan** selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated volume expansion, thereby lowering blood pressure. **S-amlodipine** blocks L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation. This combination is used in the management of **hypertension** and reduces stroke risk, especially in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy. It is generally reserved for adults and indicated when monotherapy does not sufficiently control blood pressure[1][2][3][4][6].
