Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lovaza + Curcumin C3 Complex is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated for the reduction of pulmonary nodules in current and former smokers. Curcumin C3 Complex is a standardized extract of curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin) derived from turmeric root, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Lovaza is a prescription-strength omega-3 acid ethyl ester concentrate. This combination is hypothesized to act synergistically to modulate intermediate endpoint biomarkers of lung cancer by targeting multiple biological pathways, including the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (STAT3) and Nuclear Factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathways, as well as reducing inflammation-associated chemokines and cytokines. The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute is conducting Phase II clinical trials to assess the safety and efficacy of this regimen as a chemopreventive strategy for lung cancer prevention.
