This is a combination therapy consisting of a low-dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and montelukast, an oral leukotriene receptor antagonist. The ICS component acts locally in the airways to reduce inflammation by inhibiting multiple types of inflammatory cells and decreasing the production of cytokines, chemokines, and other mediators involved in asthma pathogenesis. Montelukast selectively blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (mainly CysLT1), thereby preventing leukotriene-mediated bronchoconstriction, airway edema, and inflammation. This combination is used primarily for the management of asthma when symptoms are not adequately controlled with ICS alone. It may also be beneficial for patients with concurrent allergic rhinitis or those who cannot tolerate higher doses of ICS[1][2][7]. The combination aims to improve asthma control while minimizing steroid exposure.
