Overview

A combination of **low molecular weight heparin** (LMWH) and **edoxaban**, used sequentially (not as a single co-formulated drug), primarily in the management of thromboembolic disorders such as venous thromboembolism (VTE) and atrial fibrillation (AF). - **Low molecular weight heparin** is an injectable anticoagulant that acts by activating antithrombin III, which inhibits factor Xa, thus impeding the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and ultimately preventing fibrin clot formation. - **Edoxaban** is an oral, direct, selective, reversible inhibitor of factor Xa, preventing thrombin generation and subsequent fibrin clot formation. - Clinical protocols may use LMWH for initial parenteral anticoagulation, followed by a transition to oral edoxaban for continued therapy, particularly for acute VTE management, or as alternatives for anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation and co-morbidities. - Both agents reduce the risk of recurrent thromboembolic events but have overlapping bleeding risks. There is no widely approved fixed-dose combination product; rather, both drugs are sequentially administered as part of standard anticoagulation strategies[1][5][3][4][2].
