Lutetium Lu-177 PSMA I&T is a targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy designed for the treatment of prostate cancer. It consists of the beta-emitting radioisotope lutetium-177 (177Lu) conjugated to the PSMA I&T (Imaging & Therapy) ligand, a small molecule that specifically binds to prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA). PSMA is a transmembrane protein that is significantly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells, particularly in metastatic and castration-resistant stages. Upon intravenous administration, the drug binds to PSMA-positive tumor cells and is internalized, allowing the lutetium-177 to deliver localized, high-energy beta radiation that induces DNA damage and subsequent cell death. Originally developed at the Technical University of Munich and licensed to Scintomics and Curium, it is currently being evaluated in major clinical trials, including the Phase 3 ECLIPSE trial for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and the BULLSEYE trial for hormone-sensitive prostate cancer.
