This combination therapy consists of lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan (Pluvicto) and pembrolizumab (Keytruda). Lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan is a PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy that delivers beta-particle radiation directly to prostate cancer cells expressing the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA). Pembrolizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that blocks the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, thereby enhancing the immune system's ability to detect and fight tumor cells. The combination is being investigated, specifically in a Phase 1b trial led by the University of California, San Francisco, to determine if the radioligand therapy can provide an immunogenic priming effect that increases the efficacy of the checkpoint inhibitor in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
