Overview

LY2787106 + iron supplementation is a combination intervention studied in the treatment of anemia associated with cancer. LY2787106 is a fully humanized monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes hepcidin, a hormone central to iron homeostasis and regulation of erythropoiesis. By inhibiting hepcidin, LY2787106 prevents internalization and degradation of ferroportin, the major cellular iron exporter, thereby facilitating iron efflux from cells and increasing serum iron and transferrin saturation. Iron supplementation is used concomitantly to further support erythropoiesis by providing additional available iron. The main clinical investigation has been a phase 1 study in cancer patients with anemia, where the combination was evaluated for safety, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics, indicating that targeting the hepcidin-ferroportin pathway with LY2787106 was well tolerated and induced transient iron mobilization[1][3][8].
