Overview

Lyophilized fecal microbiota transplantation (LYO-FMT) is a live biotherapeutic product being developed by the University of British Columbia for the treatment of active ulcerative colitis. [1] It is a freeze-dried preparation of stool from healthy, screened donors, which is administered to patients via oral capsules and enemas. [1] The treatment aims to restore a healthy gut microbiome, thereby reducing inflammation and inducing remission. [3, 5] A Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT04202211) was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of LYO-FMT for inducing remission in adults with active ulcerative colitis, though the protocol has been undergoing redesign.
