Overview
MOVIPREP is a low-volume (2-liter) osmotic laxative solution used for bowel cleansing prior to clinical procedures such as colonoscopy or radiology. Developed by Norgine, it consists of a combination of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium ascorbate, and ascorbic acid. The PEG and sulfate components act as osmotic agents to induce watery diarrhea, while the electrolytes help maintain fluid balance. The addition of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate serves as an additional osmotic component and allows for a reduced volume of solution compared to traditional 4-liter PEG preparations. It is typically administered in a split-dose or single-day regimen to ensure adequate visualization of the colonic mucosa.
