Overview

**maduramycin + nicarbazin** is a combination anticoccidial drug used primarily in poultry (broiler chickens) for preventing and controlling coccidiosis caused by various *Eimeria* species (including *E. acervulina*, *E. tenella*, *E. necatrix*, *E. maxima*, *E. brunetti*, and *E. mivati*)[1][2][3][5]. Maduramycin is an ionophore that acts by selectively increasing the transport of monovalent cations (sodium and potassium) through the cell membrane of *Eimeria*, leading to cell swelling and membrane destruction[1][2]. Nicarbazin is a synthetic, non-ionophore anticoccidial agent—specifically, a complex of 4,4'-dinitro-diphenyl-urea (DNC) and 2-hydroxy-4,6-dimethyl-pyrimidin (HDP)—that inhibits energy metabolism in the parasite[1][3]. The combination offers synergistic efficacy and helps to delay resistance development in target parasites[1][5][7]. The drugs act within the gastrointestinal tract and are excreted mostly unchanged in feces[1][3]. The product is supplied largely as a feed premix and is classified as low toxicity for poultry but is toxic to horses[1][2][3].
