Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a balanced crystalloid intravenous solution composed of magnesium chloride, sodium acetate, sodium chloride, sodium gluconate, and potassium chloride. It is designed to mimic the electrolyte composition of human plasma and serves as a sterile, nonpyrogenic, isotonic replacement therapy. The solution is primarily indicated for the restoration of fluid and electrolyte balance in cases of dehydration, acute extracellular fluid loss, and electrolyte imbalance. The acetate and gluconate components act as alkalinizing agents by serving as metabolic precursors to bicarbonate, which helps in correcting metabolic acidosis. Formulations like Physiolyte are also utilized as irrigation solutions for general washing and rinsing during surgical procedures.
