Overview

This combination of electrolytes, buffers, and dextrose is used as a replacement solution in continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), specifically for hemofiltration and hemodiafiltration. The solution is designed to replace water and essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and phosphate) that are removed during the filtration process. It also contains an alkalinizing buffer (bicarbonate or its precursor lactate) to help restore and maintain acid-base balance in patients with acute kidney injury or renal failure. The inclusion of anhydrous dextrose provides a caloric source and helps maintain blood glucose levels during the procedure. These solutions are pharmacologically inactive and work by restoring plasma electrolyte concentrations to clinically desired levels.
