Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magnesium chloride + sodium lactate + dextrose monohydrate + calcium chloride + sodium chloride is a hypertonic peritoneal dialysis solution indicated for the management of acute or chronic renal failure in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Developed and manufactured by companies including Fresenius Medical Care and Baxter (Vantive), the solution functions by establishing an osmotic gradient across the peritoneal membrane. Dextrose monohydrate serves as the primary osmotic agent, exerting osmotic pressure that results in transcapillary ultrafiltration to remove excess fluid and metabolic waste products from the blood. Additionally, the solution contains essential electrolytes to correct systemic electrolyte imbalances, and sodium lactate, which acts as a buffer to help normalize acid-base abnormalities.
