Overview
Magnesium oxide + anhydrous citric acid + sodium picosulfate is an **oral small-molecule combination bowel preparation** developed and marketed by **Ferring** for **colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy** in adults and pediatric patients 9 years of age and older. The regimen combines **sodium picosulfate**, a stimulant laxative prodrug that is converted in the colon to an active metabolite that stimulates colonic peristalsis, with **magnesium oxide + anhydrous citric acid**, which react in solution to form **magnesium citrate**, an osmotic laxative that retains water in the intestinal lumen. Together these mechanisms induce watery diarrhea and rapid evacuation of colonic contents to improve visualization during colonoscopy. The product has been marketed as the powder formulation **Prepopik** and the ready-to-drink oral solution **Clenpiq**.
