Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Manuka honey + CycloPower (MHCPME) is a novel topical ophthalmic microemulsion cream developed for the management of blepharitis, a chronic inflammatory condition of the eyelids. The formulation consists of methylglyoxal (MGO)-rich Mānuka honey complexed with α-cyclodextrin, a technology known as CycloPower™ that enhances the antibacterial potency of MGO. Developed by researchers at the University of Auckland in collaboration with Manuka Health New Zealand, the cream is applied to closed eyelids overnight to reduce bacterial load and alleviate inflammation. Clinical studies have demonstrated its safety and efficacy in both healthy individuals and patients with blepharitis, leveraging the natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of Mānuka honey.
