Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maraviroc is a small molecule C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) co-receptor antagonist used in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of CCR5-tropic HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients. It works by allosterically inhibiting the CCR5 chemokine coreceptor, thereby preventing HIV from entering and infecting host cells[1][6][7][8]. Maraviroc is marketed under the brand name Selzentry (Celsentri outside the US) and was developed by Pfizer. PF-03716539 is a code name for an investigational compound that has been evaluated in phase 1 studies for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers[4]. The combination "maraviroc + PF-03716539" refers to both drugs being studied or administered together; however, there is no evidence that this specific combination has been approved or widely studied beyond early-phase trials.
