Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maraviroc + telaprevir is a combination of two small molecule antiviral drugs. Maraviroc is a CCR5 co-receptor antagonist developed by Pfizer and used in combination with other antiretroviral agents to treat CCR5-tropic HIV-1 infection. It works by blocking the interaction between HIV and the human CCR5 receptor on T-cells, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells[1][4]. Telaprevir is an NS3/4A serine protease inhibitor developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for use in combination therapy (with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin) for chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection. It inhibits HCV replication by blocking the cleavage of viral polyproteins necessary for producing mature viral proteins[3][6][8]. Both drugs are approved pharmaceuticals but are not indicated as a fixed-dose or standard clinical combination.
