Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maraviroc + zidovudine + lamivudine is a combination antiretroviral therapy used in the treatment of HIV infection. Maraviroc is a small molecule CCR5 co-receptor antagonist that blocks the entry of CCR5-tropic HIV-1 into human cells by allosterically modifying the CCR5 receptor, thereby preventing viral fusion and entry[4][8]. Zidovudine and lamivudine are both nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase by incorporating into viral DNA and causing chain termination, thus blocking viral replication[2][6]. This combination targets different stages of the HIV life cycle to reduce viral load and slow disease progression. The regimen is indicated for use in adults with confirmed CCR5-tropic HIV infection as part of a complete antiretroviral regimen[4].
