Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Marinol + alcohol beverage refers to the combination of the FDA-approved drug Marinol (dronabinol) and ethanol, which is currently being investigated in clinical research. Marinol is a synthetic form of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that acts as an agonist at cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2). It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of anorexia associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS and for nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy. Alcohol (ethanol) is a central nervous system depressant that primarily modulates GABA-A and NMDA receptors. This specific combination is the subject of a Phase 1 clinical trial sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to evaluate the dose-dependent interaction between oral THC and alcohol on driving performance, perception, and subjective drug effects in healthy adults. The study aims to address safety concerns regarding the co-consumption of cannabis products and alcohol.
