This is a combination therapy involving **mavoglurant**, a selective, brain-penetrant, negative allosteric modulator of the **metabotropic glutamate receptor 5** (mGluR5), and a **selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor** (SSRI), a drug class that increases serotonin neurotransmission by inhibiting serotonin reuptake. Mavoglurant was originally developed by Novartis for fragile X syndrome and other neuropsychiatric disorders, later acquired by Stalicla. Combination therapy with SSRIs has been explored mainly in **obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) resistant to SSRI monotherapy**: in a phase 2 study, mavoglurant was added to existing SSRI regimens, but the study was terminated early for lack of efficacy and increased adverse effects[2][4].
