MD05 is a biologic therapeutic combination consisting of recombinant human growth/differentiation factor-5 (rhGDF-5), also known as bone morphogenetic protein 14 (BMP-14), adsorbed onto a particulate beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) carrier. Developed by Scil Technology GmbH, it is designed for periodontal regeneration to treat deep intrabony defects and alveolar bone loss. The rhGDF-5 component acts as a potent signaling molecule that stimulates the recruitment, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts and periodontal ligament cells, facilitating the restoration of lost bone and periodontal attachment. The β-TCP carrier provides a biocompatible, osteoconductive scaffold that is gradually resorbed and replaced by host bone during the healing process.
