Drug intelligence / Profile preview
M-M-R II is a live attenuated trivalent viral vaccine developed and manufactured by Merck for active immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella. It contains weakened forms of three viruses: the measles virus (Enders' attenuated Edmonston strain, propagated in chick embryo cell culture), the mumps virus (Jeryl Lynn B-level strain, propagated in chick embryo cell culture), and the rubella virus (Wistar RA 27/3 strain, propagated in WI-38 human diploid lung fibroblasts). The vaccine is indicated for individuals 12 months of age or older, typically administered in a two-dose schedule (first dose at 12–15 months and second dose at 4–6 years). It stimulates both humoral and cellular immune responses, leading to the production of protective antibodies against the three target viruses.
