Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine by PT Bio Farma is a live attenuated viral vaccine indicated for the active immunization of infants and children against measles and rubella infections. It is a critical component of the Indonesian National Program of Immunization and has achieved WHO prequalification, enabling its distribution through international agencies such as UNICEF and PAHO. The vaccine contains live attenuated strains of the measles virus (typically Edmonston-Zagreb) and rubella virus (typically Wistar RA 27/3), which stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies and activate cellular immunity. Administered via subcutaneous injection, it is used to prevent measles, rubella, and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS). PT Bio Farma is the sole local vaccine manufacturer in Indonesia and produces this vaccine to meet both domestic and international public health needs.
