A live, attenuated vaccine composed of weakened strains of measles virus (derived from the Enders' attenuated Edmonston strain, grown in chick embryo cell cultures) and rubella virus (Wistar RA 27/3 strain, grown in human diploid cell culture), mixed and lyophilized for simultaneous immunization. The vaccine elicits an adaptive immune response by stimulating the production of antibodies against both measles and rubella viruses, providing long-term immunity. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of measles (rubeola) and rubella (German measles), significantly reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases. Generally given as a subcutaneous injection, it is intended for individuals 15 months of age or older and is highly immunogenic, with studies showing sustained antibody responses in most recipients for over a decade[5].
