Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Measles virus vaccine live is a live-attenuated viral vaccine used for active immunization to prevent measles (rubeola) infection. The vaccine contains a weakened, non-pathogenic strain of the measles virus (typically derived from the Enders' attenuated Edmonston strain, such as the Moraten or Schwarz strains) propagated in chick embryo cell cultures. Upon administration, the live-attenuated virus replicates in host cells, mimicking a natural infection without causing severe disease. This replication stimulates a robust, long-lasting immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and the activation of T-cell-mediated immunity, which provides protective immunity against future exposure to wild-type measles virus.
