Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MEE-SA01 + V1SA019 + V1SA020 is a novel bacteriophage cocktail consisting of three antistaphylococcal phages: MEE-SA01 (a Rosenblumvirus phage), V1SA019 (a Silviavirus phage), and V1SA020 (a Silviavirus phage). Developed through a collaboration between Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Hospices Civils de Lyon, and the French National Reference Centre for Staphylococci, this combination therapy is designed to treat severe, multidrug-resistant (MDR) methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) ocular infections, including keratitis and endophthalmitis. The cocktail targets *S. aureus* by binding to wall teichoic acid (WTA) on the bacterial cell surface, leading to rapid viral replication, host cell lysis, and biofilm disruption. By combining phages from different taxonomic families (Rosenblumvirus and Silviavirus), the cocktail achieves synergistic bactericidal activity and significantly reduces the risk of resistance emergence compared to single-phage therapies or standard-of-care antibiotics like vancomycin.
