Overview

Melatonin + methylphenidate is a combination of two active ingredients used primarily in the management of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with associated sleep disturbances. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant that increases synaptic concentrations of dopamine and norepinephrine by inhibiting their reuptake, thereby improving attention and reducing hyperactivity and impulsivity. Melatonin is an endogenous hormone that regulates circadian rhythms and promotes sleep onset; as a supplement, it acts as an agonist at melatonin receptors to help normalize sleep patterns. The combination is particularly relevant for patients with ADHD who experience insomnia or delayed sleep onset due to stimulant therapy, as melatonin can mitigate these side effects without diminishing the therapeutic efficacy of methylphenidate[2][3][5]. Clinical studies indicate that this combination can improve sleep latency and reduce overall sleep disturbances in children treated for ADHD[3][5].
