Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meloxicam + cyclobenzaprine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents: meloxicam, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and cyclobenzaprine, a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant. Meloxicam works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain and inflammation. Cyclobenzaprine acts on the central nervous system to reduce excessive muscle activity, thereby relieving muscle spasms and associated discomfort. This combination was developed for the treatment of back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions involving both inflammation and muscle spasm[3][6]. The fixed-dose product was developed by Eurofarma but its development appears to have been discontinued prior to market approval[6].
