Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Memantine + donepezil is a fixed-dose combination medication used for the treatment of moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type. It contains two active ingredients: - **Memantine**, an NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptor antagonist that blocks excessive glutamate activity in the brain, which is believed to contribute to symptoms and neurotoxicity in Alzheimer's disease. - **Donepezil**, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter important for memory and learning. The combination aims to improve or stabilize cognitive function, behavior, and daily functioning in patients with moderate-to-severe Alzheimer’s disease who are already stabilized on both components separately. The product is available as extended-release oral capsules[1][2][5][10].
