menatetrenone + calcium supplement

A combination of **menatetrenone** (also known as vitamin K2, specifically the MK-4 form) and a **calcium supplement** is used as a therapy primarily to support bone health in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Menatetrenone acts by stimulating the carboxylation of osteocalcin, a vitamin K-dependent protein implicated in the regulation of bone mineralization, thereby enhancing calcium utilization in bone formation. Calcium supplementation provides the necessary mineral substrate for bone deposition. While menatetrenone is approved for osteoporosis treatment in Japan, clinical evidence for the benefit of the combination over calcium alone in reducing fracture risk is mixed, with modest benefits mainly observed in patients with advanced osteoporosis. The combination is generally taken orally.
