Overview

A quadrivalent meningococcal polysaccharide-protein conjugate vaccine is a biologic preparation designed to induce active immunity against *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. Unlike plain polysaccharide vaccines, these formulations conjugate the bacterial capsular polysaccharides to a carrier protein, such as diphtheria toxoid, CRM197, or tetanus toxoid. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which enhances immunogenicity in infants, induces higher antibody titers, and promotes immunological memory. It is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of invasive meningococcal disease, including meningitis and septicemia, in individuals ranging from infants to older adults, depending on the specific product formulation.
