Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal (groups A, C, Y, W-135) oligosaccharide diphtheria CRM197 conjugate vaccine is a quadrivalent conjugate vaccine indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 in individuals aged 2 months through 55 years. Each type-specific capsular polysaccharide (serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135) is conjugated individually to the diphtheria carrier protein CRM197, enabling a T-cell dependent immune response. The vaccine elicits production of specific antibodies (IgG, IgM, and IgA) that target the capsular polysaccharides of N. meningitidis, resulting in bactericidal immunity. It does not protect against infections caused by N. meningitidis serogroup B or other pathogens. Developed by GSK, Menveo was first approved in the US in 2010[1][2][3][4][5].
