Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal A, C, W-135 and Y conjugate vaccines are quadrivalent conjugate vaccines that prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. They contain purified capsular polysaccharides from each serogroup covalently linked to a carrier protein (diphtheria toxoid, CRM197, or tetanus toxoid), converting the response to T cell–dependent immunity, which enhances immunogenicity and immune memory compared with plain polysaccharide vaccines. Three widely used formulations are MenACWY-D (Menactra; diphtheria toxoid conjugate), MenACWY-CRM (Menveo; CRM197 conjugate; supplied as one- or two-vial presentation), and MenACWY-TT (MenQuadfi; tetanus toxoid conjugate; ready-to-use solution). Indicated for active immunization across approved age ranges (from 2 months for Menveo; 2 years for MenQuadfi; 9 months historically for Menactra) to reduce the risk of meningococcal meningitis and septicemia. Administered intramuscularly with schedules and booster recommendations per age and risk; does not protect against serogroup B disease.
