Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135 (W), and Y. The polysaccharides from each serogroup are individually purified and chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid. This enhances the immune response compared to unconjugated polysaccharide vaccines by inducing T-cell dependent immunity. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease in children (as young as 2 months for some brands), adolescents, and adults up to 55 years of age[1][2][3][4][5][7]. It does not protect against serogroup B.
