Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A **tetravalent conjugate vaccine** for the prevention of invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. It consists of capsular polysaccharides from each serogroup covalently linked to diphtheria toxoid as a protein carrier. This conjugation induces a T-cell dependent immune response and immunological memory, improving protection especially in infants and young children compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines. The vaccine is used for active immunization of individuals (typically from 9 months to 55 years old) at risk for meningococcal disease, particularly in settings of outbreaks, or for population-based prevention. It does not provide protection against serogroup B meningococcal disease[1][2][3].
