Overview

MenC-CRM197 vaccine, commercially known as Menjugate, is a monovalent conjugate vaccine indicated for active immunization against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C. The vaccine utilizes a conjugation technology where meningococcal group C oligosaccharides are chemically linked to CRM197, a non-toxic mutant of the diphtheria toxin. This conjugation transforms the polysaccharide from a T-cell independent to a T-cell dependent antigen, enabling the induction of immunological memory and effective protection in infants and young children. Originally developed by Chiron and subsequently managed by Novartis and GSK, the vaccine has been extensively evaluated in clinical trials, including Phase 4 studies by the Oxford Vaccine Group, to determine optimal priming and booster schedules within national immunization programs.
