Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal groups A, C, W, and Y oligosaccharide diphtheria CRM-197 conjugate vaccine is an injectable vaccine designed to protect against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W, and Y. The active components are purified capsular polysaccharides from these four serogroups of *N. meningitidis* that are chemically linked (conjugated) to the non-toxic mutant diphtheria toxin protein CRM197. This conjugation enhances the immune response by promoting T-cell dependent immunity even in young children. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease (including meningitis and septicemia) in at-risk populations such as adolescents, people with certain medical conditions (e.g., asplenia or complement deficiencies), travelers to endemic regions, military recruits, microbiologists exposed to *N. meningitidis* isolates, and during outbreaks[1][2][5][8]. Multiple manufacturers produce this type of vaccine under different brand names.
